Welcome to the Animal Rights Outreach website

Animal Rights Outreach(ARO) is an organization run by Tony Levin based in North Vancouver, BC, Canada (a part of Greater Vancouver) that is working to end the exploitation of nonhuman animals. ARO focuses a large part of it's resources on encouraging people to make changes in their own lives to help stop animal exploitation.

The vast majority of animal exploitation occurs in the food industry where animals are forced to live through torturesome conditions (in the regular system and also in the "free range" or organic systems), so ARO concentrates a lot of effort on encouraging people to stop eating animal products (including dairy products and eggs which involve a lot of suffering and killing) so that people can stop paying for the confinement and killing of animals in the food industry (in other words, ARO encourages people to switch to a diet that is free of animal products which is often called a 'vegan diet'). Note that you can learn about the suffering and killing involved in the dairy and egg industries by clicking here (or click here for information about this in the "free range" industries).

There are roughly 10 billion land-based animals killed in the US food industy every year, 0.7 billion killed in the Canadian food industry, and easily over 50 billion animals killed for food in the world every year, and lots of these animals are forced to live through absolute misery, so it really will make a huge difference in the world if people stop eating animal products. There are only about 6 billion humans in the world, so obviously each human that eats animal products is causing a lot of animal suffering. This means that people can make a huge change in the amount of animal suffering and exploitation occuring in the world, simply by changing what they eat, and there is lots of information available to help people stop eating animal products (click here to gather some information about this, or you can also get vegan cookbooks and nutrition books at libraries, bookstores or internet bookstores).

And it really doesn't take much effort to live a life without eating animal products, since a person just needs to learn a few things about how to prepare tasty vegan meals and how to eat healthy vegan food and then it becomes habitual to only eat vegan food. And you can still eat very tasty and filling food if you eat a vegan diet, so you don't have to be concerned about only eating bland or unfilling food if you switch to a vegan diet. There are also a number of restaurants (including restaurants that sell meat) that have some good vegan dishes so a person can spend a bit of time learning where these restaurants are located and then can eat tasty vegan meals at restaurants as well as at home. It's also wonderful that there are some restaurants that are totally vegan or have lots of vegan dishes which make things even easier for vegans (and if you find a vegan restaurant that you like and that's convenient for you to get to, then you may want to eat at that restaurant more than other restaurants to help make sure that good vegan restaurants get enough business to remain in existence). It's also nice to know that if you make the small effort to stick to a vegan diet, then you may obtain some major health benefits from doing this (this is becoming recognized even by mainstream organizations like the American Dietetic Association (ADA); click here for a paper by the ADA that discusses this).
